Finger Lakes Morgans was started by Nick and Robin Pelham and their daughter, Danielle Rice, in 2006. Although the name of the farm is new and they are relative newcomers to the Morgan world, their family has been involved with riding, training, and showing horses for generations. Nick's family bred, raised, and raced Standardbreds in the 1970's and 1980's on the local race circuit. Although young, Nick was involved and enjoyed accompanying his father to the barns and racetracks and always assisted with the horses as much as possible.
As a child, Robin and her parents, Carole and Forrest Loper, actively showed Quarter Horses locally and regionally. Although not participating in horse shows for several years, horses always remained a part of their lives and Danielle began riding before she could walk. She grew up riding the family's Quarter Horses and Arabians.
A short four-year hiatus from horses,
while Danielle was away at college, ended when she returned home in 2004.
The first thing on her "to-do list" was to find a horse! Robin and
Danielle took up riding again and were soon re-introduced to the Morgan
breed. Danielle became hooked on the saddle seat discipline and
purchased their first Morgan, MJK Intimate Promise, to ride and show "at
a couple local Morgan shows". Robin was not far behind in making the
decision to return to her western pleasure show roots and soon after
purchased their second Morgan, Oldfield Sailor. Needless to say, the
original plan of going to "a couple local Morgan shows" went by the
wayside as they traveled to Gold Cup, New England, and Oklahoma that
first
year!
Nick, Robin, Danielle & Abbie, the scotty-poodle horse show dog, are the team that makes up Finger Lakes Morgans and the most important thing to this family is to work hard and have fun! Nick is an invaluable asset at home and shows...he keeps everything and everyone organized, on time, and running smoothly. Robin and Danielle can usually been seen working and showing the horses and Abbie keeps watch at the RV or is on the rail watching the show!
With a 72' x 144' indoor riding arena, an 18 stall barn at maximum capacity, the first foal to carry the FLX prefix on the ground and the second on the way, things at Finger Lakes Morgans aren't slowing down a bit!
Thanks for looking!
